We built YAGNI for the harder work of maintaining large codebases
Founded in 2024 in Denver, Colorado. Independently funded, small team focused on one problem.
The problem we kept seeing
Long-lived product codebases tend to grow even when feature work stops. Old A/B tests leave branches behind. Feature flags from past product directions still guard production paths. Modules created for customer segments that later changed continue to compile, run, and occupy onboarding documentation.
Linters identify part of the problem, and coverage tools offer clues. Yet "possibly unused" is far from "safe to delete." Static analysis cannot show what ran in production. Dynamic analysis takes time and setup, while manual archaeology consumes senior engineering hours teams rarely have.
Jack and Rachel had both seen codebase reduction become a recurring goal that never got finished. The value was clear, but teams lacked a safe, fast, reviewable method. YAGNI provides that method.
The team
Jack Collins
CEO and Co-Founder
Jack Collins is CEO and Co-Founder. He spent years building developer tooling for large-scale codebase migrations and refactoring automation. His work centers on helping teams safely change code that has accumulated over time.
Rachel Kessler
CTO and Co-Founder
Rachel Kessler is CTO and Co-Founder. Her background spans static analysis, test infrastructure, and compiler tooling at devtools companies. She focuses on understanding where static analysis breaks down and how runtime signals can close those gaps.
Marcus Osei
Head of Engineering
Marcus Osei is Head of Engineering. His work covers dependency resolution, build systems, and distributed code analysis pipelines. He focuses on the systems that keep YAGNI practical for complex codebases.
